2008 West Virginia Blues Contest Winner
2007 MOUNTAIN STAGE NEWSONG Contest Regional Finalist
CD review from WV's Graffiti magazine: "My intro to Sam Lamont was listening to him one evening at the Black Bear, covering a Springsteen tune and thinking he was lip syncing a CD. Yeah, he's that good. The front man for Tanglewood took advantage of the band's current hiatus to produce a great disk; think of some of Stills' best solo efforts and you'll get a feel for this disk...Four stars"
Bio: Sam's original songs are grounded in the country-blues and folk traditions: good times and hard times, and all else we may encounter as we navigate through the time that we have here. As the singer and rhythm guitarist for the four-piece acoustic string band Tanglewood, he has shared the stage with artists such as Larry Keel and Natural Bridge, The Avett Brothers, and The Hackensaw Boys.
Recently Sam has compiled eleven of his own songs in the form of a self-produced, handmade CD on which he sings and plays guitar, harmonica, mandolin, and banjo. The effort led him to the regional finals of the 2007 Mountain Stage New Song contest and together with his live shows, has helped him form a local but loyal fan base.
